We spoke with health and wellness experts of North America for their views on the present situation of workplace wellness and their predictions on the future. Although there are some expected similarities, we also found that the different types of business and cultural perspectives can impact the way we think about things significantly.
A lot of North American corporate leaders seem to recognize the importance of incorporating “wellness”, but often do not have the motivation. Surprisingly Enough, the top priority for health and wellness for companies across the US was identified as “saving on healthcare costs” and was followed by “productivity”.

A lot of wellness leaders have said that they have exceptions but generally speaking, many managers don’t care that their employees are fit and healthy. However, they do acknowledge that positive changes with certain American businesses.
Business leaders’ optimism can be boosted by two main trends. One is that they’re noticing an increase in awareness of cultural importance in which the people ask “Am I healthier because of my work? Or less?” Furthermore, the increasing consciousness of the fact that “wellness is more than stopping smoking, losing weight and biometrics. It’s about helping people to live a better life.”
Others who are wellness executives also highlight the fact that the two top employees’ health and wellness goals include “engagement” and “costs”. They believe that Senior Management have a genuine concern for employee health and wellbeing, however, in the near future further information and education will be needed to help them appreciate the significance of developing further Employee Wellness Programs, especially ones that are offered on-site.
The flip side is that better knowledge about “employee motivation” will need to be taken into consideration in order for this to change in the near future. Managers might think that providing wellness portals or gym memberships at a discounted rate are employee health. The reality is that life often gets in the way of good intentions.
According to the majority of corporate wellness experts across North America, developing and providing on-site wellness services and programs will ensure that employees are not just receiving health and wellness advice and information, but also benefiting from the sessions and services and more.

Where is wellness today? Although cost savings remains among 3 of the most important priorities for the majority of our respondents, the requirement to retain employees is now shifting to satisfaction and engagement of employees.
In some fields there’s a persistent desire from executives to assess the effectiveness of wellness programs by conventional financial metrics, while avoiding more tangible metrics like workplace satisfaction or employee well-being.
However, a change in the boardroom’s attitude toward wellness is viewed as inevitable. There are many mental health problems that are affecting all of us. This is real and happens on every level. It will force leaders to pay attention to the health of their minds and well-being.
