Should iPhone charger get hot?
Like any other charger, Apple chargers take power from the wall outlet, change the voltage, and send it to the iPhone, iPad, or other Apple device.
But you may have noticed that your Apple charger sometimes gets hot. Should you be worried?
Apple chargers are supposed to get hot. The second law of thermodynamics, called the “Kelvin-Plank statement,” says that no engine can work without giving off some heat. This means that all electrical devices give off heat when they are used.
This basic law explains why chargers and phones get hot when they are being charged. The more power you give it, the more heat it will give off. This will make it heat up a little faster and at a higher temperature.
Normal charging uses less power than fast charging. Not only does the charger heat up faster, but so does the iPhone that is being charged.
Why does the charger for my iPhone get hot when it’s plugged in?
All problems with energy and heat are related to the basic laws of thermodynamics. The zeroth law of thermodynamics and the other three laws describe how energy, heat, and entropy work.
All you need to know is that the Kelvin-Plank statement of the Second Law of Thermodynamics says that no engine can complete a cycle without wasting heat.
The word “engine” does not always mean a car engine or an airplane engine. A charger is a step-down transformer that takes the voltage from 110 to 200 V and lowers it to about 5.5 V.
This whole process gives off heat, which is a form of energy. Because of this, when your iPhone charger is plugged in, it gets hot.

Under normal conditions, should iPhone charger get hot?
If the iPhone is getting hot because of a problem with the wire, charger, or battery, the charger will feel hot when you touch it. In this situation, I wouldn’t suggest you touch the charger for more than a few seconds.
When I charge my iPhone for 15 minutes, the charger gets hot. (it used to be fine)
If your iPhone charger gets hot after only 15 minutes of charging, that might not be normal. This could be too hot because:
- A broken charging cord
- A faulty adapter
- A damaged / depleted battery
- A faulty socket
iPhones are made to high standards, so it is very unlikely that the problem is with the battery. Here’s a step-by-step plan for figuring out why something is overheating:
- Use a different plug to charge your iPhone.
- Switch out your charging cable and see if the problem is still there.
- Switch out the adapter.
- Try getting a new adapter and charging cable.
If the charger still gets too hot, it might not be the charger’s fault. Get a pro to check the battery in your iPhone.
How to stop your iPhone charger from getting too hot?
Here are a few things you can do to keep your iPhone charger from getting too hot:
#1: Plug the charger straight into the wall.
Plug your charger directly into the wall instead of using an extension cord or a converter.
#2: Use a charger with less power.
As was already said, fast charging makes phones and chargers get hotter than regular charging. Try using a lower-power charger and letting your iPhone charge at its normal speed.

#4: Make sure the iPhone has enough air flow.
Changing the way your iPhone charger is plugged in can help keep it from getting too hot. Most people just plug in their phone’s charging cable and set it on a flat, soft surface. This stops the air from moving and makes it hard to breathe.
Instead, put your iPhone at an angle on a vertical surface, leaving a gap between the back of the phone and the surface. This will let the iPhone’s heat move in the right way. This will also keep the charger from getting too hot.

Is it possible that my iPhone charger will blow up?
Even if you leave your iPhone plugged in all the time, the charger won’t blow up as long as you use the one made by Apple. Using a charger or cable from a third party can sometimes cause bad things to happen, like an explosion.

Unofficial power cords and other electronics usually don’t work well and get too hot.
Still, original power cords can also get hot if they are used too much.
When more power is drawn from a socket than what is recommended, this is called overloading. When you plug in a lot of power-hungry devices to the same plug, the devices can overload the plug.
If you have power sockets, try to plug only one thing into each one so you don’t overload the power. If you plug more than one thing into the same outlet, make sure they don’t all need a lot of power.
Why does my iPhone get hot when it’s being charged?
During charging, your iPhone’s battery goes through chemical reactions that release energy as heat.
Physically, the charging can’t happen without some energy being lost in the form of heat (again, Second Law of Thermodynamics).
The Kelvin-Plank law says that when charging, heat will always be made.
The more reactions that happen when charging is done quickly, the more energy is lost. So the device will get hotter the faster it charges.
If your iPhone gets very hot while it’s charging, lean it against something vertical. There should be some space between the phone and the surface it touches.
This gap will help the iPhone cool down as it charges by letting air flow through it. If your phone is still very hot after you stop charging it, take it to a professional to be checked out.
Is it bad to keep charging an iPhone that’s already full?
Phones with a type-C charging port are newer and have built-in systems that keep them from getting too charged. iPhones and iPads also have these kinds of parts. Because of this, it’s not bad to keep charging an iPhone or iPad that’s already full.
iPhones won’t use more power than they have to. When they reach 100%, they’ll just stop charging. There is no chance that the phone will explode or that the battery will run out.
